The Detroit Red Wings aren't strangers to using draft picks to land top talent in the NHL, and Steve Yzerman could find a way to turn one or two into Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson.

Steve Yzerman made a deal with the Ottawa Senators nearly two years ago in order to acquire Alex DeBrincat.
Since then, he's been a top producer for the Red Wings after his acquisition from a divisional rival. Now, Yzerman has the chance to upgrade the Red Wings lineup once more, as GM Jim Nill of the Dallas Stars could move on from Jason Robertson.
Trading Jason Robertson would mean the Dallas Stars could free up cap space, and get a top-draft pick in the next one or two (2025/2026) drafts..
Robertson could be that guy who Yzerman weaponizes draft picks to push the rebuild forward, and would give Larkin another skilled forward in the lineup to play with on the 1st-line.
We're prepared to use our draft picks. We're prepared to use our prospects. We are prepared to use any player for that matter that makes us better and helps us in our timeline.»

With the recent signing of Mikko Rantanen to a massive new deal, at $12 million AAV, and under $5 million in cap space, they're in a crunch. Jason Robertson, an RFA will be due a raise and that will create crippling issues down the road if it isn't addressed.
He currently makes $7.75 million and could seek a bigger piece of the cap, but it won't be in Dallas.
Robertson is a proven goal-scorer, and tallied 80 points (35-45) this season, and was a staple on the Stars' top line, along with Roope Hintz centering him.
He could be flexible and work on both flanks of Larkin, as a right wing or left wing, and would add missing offense in the lineup.
In the past four seasons, he's scored 151 goals total, an average of 37.5 goals per year.
With $21 million in cap space, Robertson could fit under the cap easily and provide the offense sorely needed, as Larkin, Raymond, DeBrincat, and Patrick Kane can't be the only ones the team depends on.
We could end up seeing Yzerman drop two 1st-round picks, an NHLer, and a prospect for the 80-point forward.
