Former Detroit Red Wings head coach interviews for Chicago Blackhawks bench boss vacancy
A new announcement has confirmed that a former Detroit Red Wings member received an interview for the Chicago Blackhawks' head coach position, and it is unexpected.
As 2024/25 NHL offseason moves are in motion, plenty of NHL team's are seeking new bench boss', including the Chicago Blackhawks, and an NHL insider has revealed the Detroit Red Wings' former head coach,
Jeff Blashill, has been interviewed for the team's head-coaching position.
Jeff Blashill has only endured a head-coaching position once at the NHL level, that being with the Detroit Red Wings, and his occupancy lasted a fairly lengthy time as he spent seven years at the helm of Detroit, running from 2015/16 to 2021/22.
During Blahill's first year with the Detroit Red Wings, the organization made postseason contention, however, they failed to do so within the remaining six years of his occupancy (and still haven't since he was let go).
Under the 51-year old's tutelage, Detroit recorded a 204-261-70 record, which concluded in a points percentage of just .447.
Blahill was later fired from his head coaching position in the 2021/22 NHL season, where he later made his comeback as an assistant coach for the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2022/23 NHL season.
This former Detroit head coach has continued his career within the Tampa Bay Lightning organization, as he has endured his third year with the team, and he is seemingly on the rise to become a head coach for the second time around as it is suggested the Chicago Blackhawks are very interested in him.
This looks like bad news for the Blackhawks as Daily Faceoff's Frank Servalli has confirmed that this former Red Wings coach is speculated to be Chicago's next bench boss, and he isn't suggested to be capable of offering the young team the help they are in dire need of.
Do you think
Jeff Blashill will be a better head coach in Chicago rather than Detroit if he receives the bench boss position?
