The NHL hopes of a former Detroit Red Wings player went down the drain after a recent announcement.
The Detroit Red Wings drafted Chase Pearson in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL Draft, but since, things didn't unfold like it was hoped for him.
Indeed, Pearson left North America in 2023, and after two seasons in Slovakia and Austria, signed a new contract in the EIHL, with the Nottingham Panthers.
"I'm excited for the challenge and it's going to be a new experience for me. I'm going to get an education and play hockey at a high level."
Pearson will look to complete his bachelor's degree at Nottingham, alongside former university teammates Mitch Fossier and Tim Dougherty, who are also under contract with the team:
"Mitch and Tim are a huge reason why I am signing in Nottingham. They were in my class so I have known them for a long time.
I talked to Mitch about coming to Nottingham and he said it's one of the craziest atmospheres he's ever played in and the fanbase is behind the team the whole time. That's another big reason for me coming. I want to play in a fun atmosphere in front of a fanbase that is passionate about the game."
The Panthers' head coach Danny Stewart provided comments on his team's latest acquisition:
"Chase's pedigree speaks for itself. He's a big center that can play all situations. He's a great player on both sides of the puck and very difficult to handle for opposing players."
Chase, son of former NHLer Scott Pearson, only took part in three NHL games with the Red Wings, spending most of his time in North America in the AHL.
Last season, with the VSV EC in Austria, Pearson tallied 33 points, including 19 goals, in 38 games.
The 27-year-old forward could still decide to return to the NHL after his studies and his contract with the Nottingham Panthers expires. However, most players who pursue their careers overseas don't come back.
