Former Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs forward officially signs new surprising deal
A former member of the Detroit Red Wings organization has officially signed a new surprising deal.
At this stage of the offseason, players who didn't receive offers from the NHL must consider other options to pursue their hockey careers.
In huge news, it was announced that a former Detroit Red Wings player is leaving North America for the time being.
Indeed, Dmytro Timashov signed a contract in the KHL.
Former Red Wings Timashov Signs In KHL
A press release confirmed that Timashov is officially joining Admiral Vladivostok in the KHL for the next two seasons:
The 28-year-old left-winger from Ukraine was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2015 and jumped to the AHL following his junior run in the QMJHL. He went on to win a Calder Cup with the Marlies in 2018 before joining the Leafs in the 2019-20 season.
However, he only took part in 39 games with the Leafs before being claimed on waivers by the Red Wings.
Timashov's time in Detroit was also brief, only playing five games.
He was later traded to the New York Islanders, where he played one NHL game and spent the rest of his time in the AHL.
He left the NHL during the 2021-22 season and never looked back, playing in Switzerland, Sweden, and Russia.
In 45 total NHL games, the 5-foot-10 forward scored nine points, including four goals. Over his five seasons in the AHL, he had 118 points.
Last season, he split his time between Sochi HC in the KHL and Genève-Servette in Switzerland, tallying 13 points in 44 games.
At his age, the player could still decide to attempt a comeback in the NHL, but it appears it won't happen for two more years.
