Red Wings And Rangers Swap Four Players 70 Years Ago Today
On August 18, 1955, Detroit sent Dave Creighton and Bronco Horvath to the New York Rangers for Billy Dea and Adolph «Aggie» Kukulowicz.
Dave Creighton played in 615 games, recording 140 goals and 174 assists for the Bruins, Leafs, Hawks, and Wings.
Creighton also had a long AHL career, where he became a respected scorer and later a coach.
Bronco Horvath, another center, was still establishing himself in the mid-1950s. After the trade, he went on to enjoy a productive NHL career, highlighted by his time with the Boston Bruins.
In 1959-60, Horvath tied Bobby Hull for the league lead in goals with 39, finishing just one point shy of winning the Art Ross Trophy.
Across 434 NHL games, he tallied 326 points and later earned a place in the AHL Hall of Fame.
Heading to Detroit in the deal was
Billy Dea, a left winger from Edmonton.
Dea carved out a steady career, appearing in nearly 400 NHL games and adding valuable depth.
The other piece coming to the Red Wings was Adolph «Aggie» Kukulowicz.
His NHL career was brief, with just four games with the Rangers in which he scored a goal and an assist, but he went on to play several seasons in the minors.
