The Detroit Red Wings have serious needs at the wing and trading for forward Trevor Zegras should be one of their priorities.
The Detroit Red Wings are considering a trade for Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras. In exchange for his service, they'd offer their 15th pick and one defensive prospect.
Zegras who's only a 23-year-old forward, has always shown his great potential despite a recent injury that happened last year. The only point in Zegras is that he's a divisive player as said by Bultman:
«We can debate what's realistic, but one trade idea I've kicked around in my head would be dealing the 15th pick and a defense prospect (William Wallinder? Albert Johansson?) to Anaheim for Trevor Zegras,» Bultman answered.
«I know Zegras is a divisive player, but even after a down year, I see a highly-creative 23-year-old forward with two 60-plus point seasons already on his resume.»
But Zegras has played 211 NHL games over four seasons racking up 154 points (55 goals, 99 assists). The forward only played 31 games in 2024 and scored 15 points. However, he had two 60+ point seasons in the NHL before this year.
«Yes, he has some flaws in his game,» Bultman wrote, «but some players' offensive output can outweigh deficiencies. Zegras clears that bar.»
The Red Wings are interested in Zegras because of the potential departures of players like Patrick Kane and David Perron which will make big holes in the offense since both were on the power play. However, the trade will probably be more complicated because of the relationship that Steve Yzerman and Pat Verbeek, GM of the Anaheim Ducks, have together.
