According to a proposal on PuckPedia's PuckGM tool, the Red Wings would trade their 2025 first-round and seventh-round picks to the Flames in exchange for Andersson and a 2025 third-round pick.
Andersson, currently in the fifth year of his six-year, $27.3 million contract, would bolster Detroit's blue line as a second-pairing right-shot defenseman behind Moritz Seider. Last season, Andersson tallied 39 points in 78 games, contributing to his career total of 200 points in 455 games with the Flames.
This potential trade aligns with GM Steve Yzerman's goal to make Detroit a playoff contender. With offseason additions like Cam Talbot, Vladimir Tarasenko, Tyler Motte, and Patrick Kane, the Red Wings aim to secure a postseason spot for the first time since 2015-16. The team opens its 2024-25 season on October 10 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
