Jason Robertson traded to the Detroit Red Wings: We now know what it will cost Steve Yzerman

If some of Steve Yzerman's acquisitions have been underwhelming in the past year, that could change in the coming months, with rumors linking Dallas Stars top forward Jason Robertson to Detroit.

Robertson has been involved in plenty of speculation since the Stars were eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals, notably because he's entering the final year of his contract and will be eligible to ask for a significant raise next summer.

In a new development from TSN's insider Pierre LeBrun, if the Stars were to trade Robertson, it would be for future assets as they want to clear cap space:

Robertson will be in a position to ask for a yearly salary of over $10M, a price the Stars can't afford.

If Robertson ends up entering the trade market, Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings will need to make a massive offer to the Stars to get him.

It wouldn't be surprising to see the Stars ask for Nate Danielson, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, or even Axel Sandin Pellikka in return, which would force Yzerman to think twice before pulling the trigger on a move involving Robertson.

Robertson, 25, scored 44 points, including 18 goals, in 56 games with the Stars this year. During the playoffs, he scored six points in 11 games, missing the whole first round against the Colorado Avalanche due to an injury.

It'll be interesting to see where he ends up going, and what the Stars get in return. Most teams would love to get him, but the harsh truth is that not all of them can afford to give him the money he wants.
