Michael Brandsegg-Nygard immediately responded to the Detroit Red Wings coaching staff after being sent to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.

On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings organization sent down the 20-year-old Norwegian prospect Michael Brandsegg-Nygard to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL.
After a very impressive training camp, the player managed to earn a spot on the Red Wings' lineup but ultimately couldn't keep the rhythm up.
In the end, his role had greatly diminished, forcing the organization to rethink his place in the NHL.
The Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan had a lot to say when he was asked to comment on Brandsegg-Nygard's performance and the decision to send him down to the American Hockey League after only nine games:
"He's a tremendous young hockey player who'll have the chance to develop down there. He'll get a chance to rediscover his confidence and get more minutes and play in prime-time situations. He's great on the power play. He'll learn how to defend a little bit better.

There's nothing but positives for him going down there. The negative is he wanted to be here, and we get it, and he gets it too. But you can't blame him for that. I'm glad he's hungry to want to be here.

He was fine. He knows he has work to do on his game. He knows he was the youngest player, basically, on our hockey team. He knows a lot of those things. There was no confusion with him going. At some point, we'll see him again if everything goes well."

On Tuesday, he took part in his first AHL game of the season, where he had a big impact on the ice.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard Responds To The Wings After He Was Sent Down To The AHL

Brandsegg-Nygard has never really been a massive offensive producer on the ice but has always found a way to have an impact for his team during games by bringing a physical presence and speed.
While he didn't score a point last night, as the Griffins extended their record-breaking winning streak to six, he had a great game.
In an interview, he showed that he is ready to work as hard as he can to return to the NHL:
"I'm not going to be disappointed. As I said, I didn't expect to start there (Detroit). For now, I'll be working my a** off."
More to come.
