The Detroit Red Wings could find a trade partner in the Utah Mammoth, as they have been linked to forward Jonatan Berggren.
The Utah Mammoth have found themselves on a hot streak this year, 1st in the Central Division with an 8-3-0 record in the NHL.
While they have an excellent top six, which has produced one of the best forwards in the league at the moment, in
Logan Cooley, they need help elsewhere.
One of those spots in the lineup is the bottom six.
On 32 Thoughts, Elliotte Freidman suggested that Berggren is one of «some forwards who might need a change of scenery because their runway is shortening in Motown"
The Mammoth could find a bargain bin option in Berggren, who could add some juice in the depth.
The Detroit Red Wings Could Move Jonatan Berggren and Give Him A Fresh Start
The team
could find a new home for Berggren, who has failed to find a home in the NHL lineup, as he's struggled to score above his career high of 28 points (15-13) in 2022-23.
The Red Wings have given him plenty of chances and different linemates to see if he could tap into his full potential, and there's been no luck.
Now, instead of letting him languish in the AHL with the Griffins, they could find a new home for him in Utah and recoup some assets in the process.
He's played 160 NHL games and scored 62 points (31-31).
The disgruntled forward could welcome a new chance in the league, since his spot has been blocked in the lineup by other prospects.
No word of a potential return
on a trade for Berggren at the moment, but we expect a similar return as what the Blackhawks received for former 17th overall pick forward
Lukas Reichel, which was a fourth round pick from the Vancouver Canucks.
