Philadelphia Flyers set to acquire member of the Detroit Red Wings per report

"Philadelphia Hockey Now's William James writes this week that it would make perfect sense for the Philadelphia Flyers to sign Red Wings goalie Alex Lyon this summer to work in tandem next season with Sam Ersson."
Other than goalie
Samuel Ersson this season, their goalie depth hasn't panned out as they'd hoped. Players like
Ivan Fedotov, and
Aleksei Kolosov (.870 save percentage) failed to produce at an NHL level for the team( Fedotov with a .884 save percentage).
Now with the pipeline in dire straits, they'll have to search outside of Russia, and inside the US for a player they can sign to an affordable deal, the
Red Wings backup, Alex Lyon.
Alex Lyon hitting the open market
Lyon is a pending UFA and makes $900K AAV at the moment and his contract expires in 2024-2025.
Briere would be remiss if he didn't make an offer to Lyon, who has been in the Flyers system from 2016-2017 to 2020-2021.
Since his time with the Florida Panthers Lyon became a hot commodity as he helped
Sergei Bobrovsky take the team to the promised land in the NHL during the 2022-2023 season.
He'd soon find himself wearing the iconic winged wheel in Detroit after GM Steve Yzerman swooped in to sign the bourgeoning goalie.
Now, Yzerman could use his talents to benefit the
Red Wings squad, and instead of sending him to a rival, he could be sent to
the Metropolitan Division and a familiar place.
Instead of letting Lyon walk, Yzerman should trade him and get something out of the goalie in return.
With a goalie like
Sebastian Cossa in Grand Rapids, the Wings will have to prioritize the future and we're not sure 32-year-old Lyon will fit into the team's timeline.
In Philadelphia, he'd be able to play in a two-goalie system and a team that is attempting to end its rebuild.
He'd have someone like
Matvei Michkov to play in front of him, and support him offensively, while players like
Travis Sanheim defend the crease.
While it's a choice if Yzerman let's him walk, it'd be careless to do so, especially if he has played up to expectations and you could at least expected a 3rd-round pick in return.
