Tonight, Max Domi and the Toronto Maple Leafs will face off in one more preseason battle in Little Caesars Arena, as Domi found himself in a replacement role tonight at center.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will take on the Detroit Red Wings tonight in a preseason finale in Little Caesars Arena.
They'll be shorthanded, as they're missing 3C Scott Laughton, who is out week-to-week with a lower-body injury.
In his place, Max Domi has been moved by the Maple Leafs into a third-line center role, something he's known for being: a playmaker.
«Well, I lost a centre,» coach Craig Berube explained. «I need a centre. But, at the same time, it gives us depth in our lines. Moving Max into that third hole gives us more depth in our lines.»

Craig Berube is taking advantage of the flexibility afforded to him by Domi, who played the majority of last season at center.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Issue Without Scott Laughton in the Lineup

Fortunately for the Maple Leafs, the battle begins with Dylan Larkin and Auston Matthews facing off tonight. But as the Leafs' depth will match up with their original six rivals, the Red Wings, they'll need someone who is capable of replacing Laughton.
They've had to utilize David Kampf and Dakota Joshua on the wings of the third line in order to keep the ranks flush with depth.
The Red Wings are 4-3-0 in the preseason, and with the Maple Leafs' depth in question, the team should feasibly be able to end the exhibition on a high note at home.
