Red Wings' acquisition of John Gibson appears far more ugly for Steve Yzerman on Thursday in shutout loss

It appears that the Red Wings' acquisition of veteran goaltender John Gibson was a mistake, a truth amplified by the New York Islanders' offense in a 5-0 shutout loss for Detroit on Thursday.
The Detroit Red Wings are 12-7-1 in the Atlantic Division, holding the 1st spot, for now.
The often-heated division has been dominated by the team, but after tonight, we're not certain what's ahead for them.
One reason the Red Wings compete is in question. John Gibson, a veteran whom Steve Yzerman traded for during the offseason.
The Red Wings would trade Petr Mrazek and two draft picks to the Anaheim Ducks for the veteran goaltender who is on the hunt for a Stanley Cup.
But with his efforts tonight, we're not sure how he'll fare.
Is Detroit Red Wings Goaltender John Gibson Washed?
The Islanders have solved the Gibson puzzle, cracking the goaltender open for five goals against tonight, leading the Red Wings 5-0.
An astounding figure for a team that is supposed to have figured it all out under Todd McLellan.
At the moment, Gibson has made 19 saves on 24 shots on goal, giving up 5 goals with a .792 save percentage.
Just awful, awful statistics for a goaltender who has wasted the better part of his prime behind terrible Anaheim Ducks teams.
And now, the Red Wings get to be the ones who pick up the pieces and hope he can help deliver a playoff run in the future.
This season Gibson has a record of 4-5-1, a 3.32 GAA, and an .875 save percentage for the 2025-26 season.
It looks as if trade between the Red Wings and Ducks was wasted, and Yzerman should've looked elsewhere for talent in the crease.
Contrast this with his career statistics of 517 games played, with a record of 208-222-64, a 2.90 GAA, and a .909 save percentage.
Something has to be wrong.
Gibson managed to avoid being listed as one of the NHL's 10 worst goaltenders , but maybe they should update the list.
