The Detroit Red Wings announced today that there will be changes to the team's iconic, winged-wheel logo, a classic logo we've seen across the chest of Steve Yzerman, Dylan Larkin, and legend Gordie Howe.

The Detroit Red Wings are changing things up for their centennial celebration, as it was announced today on "X".
The team will be debuting a new logo, which is a new direction for their 100th birthday. The logo of the winged wheel hasn't changed since the 1948 season and hasn't been updated since.
While it's easy to speculate about the direction of the team's next jersey and logo for the team's Centennial Celebration, the Wings are keeping quiet when it comes to opsec, and making sure we don't receive any special information beforehand.
The Red Wings had a different look this season during the Stadium Series, which took place in Columbus, OH, in the Ohio Stadium.
The logo was merely a signature "Detroit" logo with the Wings adorning the sides of the helmet. A slick look for sure, but nothing too fancy, or too updated for the times.
For the upcoming celebration, we anticipate the fact that the team will delve into their past as the Detroit Cougars (another callback we've seen in the past during their Winter Classic matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs) and could find themselves going with a retro look again.
For now, all we can do is wait and hope that the logo is clean and honors the past of one of the NHL's greatest franchises.
An institution since 1926 and ongoing.
