The Detroit Red Wings could select Carter Amico, of the US National Development Program, 44th overall, and add meaningful blue line talent in the prospect pool.
The Detroit Red Wings have a crop of skilled players. Those are nice, but you need to find some balance in the lineup, or else you'll get bullied around.
In order to prevent something like in the future, they'll have to consider drafting more physical players. One of those could come in the 2nd-round of the 2025 NHL Draft.
In the US National Development Programs own Carter Amico, who could fall to the Red Wings at 44th overall.
Amico is a sizeable blueliner, with a frame of 6'5", 234 pounds, and could provide some brute force on the blueline that's missing bite.
While his offensive output isn't anything to sneeze at, scoring only 5 points (5 A) in 17 games with the
US NTDP, offensive stats aren't what we're after.
It's his punishing style of play that is his "it" factor. Keep in mind, you'll have to be fair as he missed 17 games this season due to a knee injury, leaving teams to question his long-term health.
Keep in mind that the NHL Draft is a gamble; he wouldn't be a bad prospect to have on your 2nd-round shortlist, as you're more concerned with his long-term potential.
Amico was someone who was once considered a future first-round pick, but his knee injury tanked his stock. Which could mean he could use the sum of his entire college eligibility to prove to GMs that he's still a viable player. He could turn pro within three years, which means he could wear a Griffins jersey in 2028-29.
For Amico, it's not about offense, it's about crushing hits, shutting down plays, and creating opportunities for the Red Wings in the future.
Will they take Carter Amico 44th overall in 2025?
