Defenseman Moritz Seider made Detroit Red Wings franchise history on Saturday in a disappointing overtime loss to the Buffalo Sabres.

The Detroit Red Wings were back in action last night to face the last team in the Atlantic Division, the Buffalo Sabres.
Despite taking a three-goal lead toward the end of the second period, Todd McLellan and the Wings fell 5-4 in overtime to the Sabres, a disappointing result for Detroit.
After the game, Todd McLellan didn't mince his words
about his team's efforts and how they managed the game in the third period, saying the team didn't execute what they've been working on in training camp:
"I'll take you all the way back to Traverse City -- on the first day [of training camp] we talked about game management and learning how to play certain situations.

Clearly, we haven't learned that yet. I don't know if you could write a script like that. We're short-handed, trying to score and creating turnovers... Until this group figures out what's important at certain times of the game, we're going to have those nights. Simple as that."

Although the game didn't go the way Detroit wanted it to, some positive news emerged concerning Moritz Seider.

Moritz Seider Sets Wings Franchise Record In Overtime Loss

Seider, 24, has been a key player on the Wings blue line for the past several seasons now.
Since he was drafted sixth overall in 2019, he's been developing into one of the toughest defensemen to play against in the NHL.
So far this season, the six-foot-two German defenseman has tallied 10 points, including two goals, in 18 games.
In his career, he has 190 points, including 31 goals, in 346 games.
But last night, during his 346th game, he broke the Wings' ironman streak record to start a career.
This is an impressive accomplishment, as the player not only took part in all games but is also constantly blocking shots and bringing steady offensive contributions:
That streak ranks him sixth in the whole NHL for the longest consecutive games among active players, behind Brent Burns, Nick Suzuki, fellow Wing Alex DeBrincat, Charlie Coyle, and Dawson Mercer.
