Red Wings goalie of the future continues to trend all for the right reasons

The Detroit Red Wings may have gotten a steal with the 41st pick in 2023, as goaltender Trey Augustine became a wall today in the NCAA.
Michigan State Spartans goaltender Trey Augustine may be cosplaying as a brick wall today. The Red Wings' top prospect has proven he's an otherworldly force in the game of hockey.
This season, the goalie prospect has a record of 6-1-0, with a 1.41 GAA, and a .944 save percentage with the Spartans. It appears that the future starter for the Red Wings is coming into his own this year.
Augustine is considered the Red Wings' next top goalie and is in his third season in the Big Ten with the Spartans.
The former 41st overall selection in the 2023 NHL Draft has been putting up a master class of goaltending this year:

Augustine has been a force to deal with not only in collegiate hockey, but is also a top-ranked goalie in International play.
Augustine backstopped Team USA to consecutive gold medals in 2024 and 2025, and betting on himself has increased his value to the Detroit Red Wings.
Instead of the Red Wings prospect turning pro this season, he opted to go back to the NCAA as Augustine declared he had something to prove.
"There's still something to prove there and I want to go back and win a national championship," Augustine said via Helene St. James of The Detroit Free Press. "But it was a lot of good things that happened throughout the year. I got better as a hockey player and as a person and am looking to do that again next year."
The Red Wings will wait with open arms while he decides whether or not to make the leap to the NHL this season after his year in the NCAA concludes.
