A Detroit Red Wings defenseman could get the call to represent his country at the 2026 Olympic Games.

Although he made some mistakes in recent games, Simon Edvinsson showed that he has reached another level on the ice this season.
He's more mature and uses his size to his advantage.
"Simon was on the ice tonight, and he let Cat take their 50-goal scorer who's 6'7" instead of him coming to play him. I don't know what happens sometimes, but those are all game management situations, it was one versus two. Was that mental, between the ears? Probably. But until we value it and we figure it out, I'll probably be talking about this again."

However, he could still get the call from Sweden to take part in the Olympics.

Peter Forsberg Reveals Massive Need at Sweden's Blue Line That Simon Edvinsson Could Fill

In a recent interview, NHL and Olympics legend Peter Forsberg revealed that Sweden's blue line is lacking size, which will hurt the country's chances of winning the gold.
Here's what he said:
"I may sound negative, but we lack size. I think we have a good team and can compete for Olympic gold. But we are not the USA or Canada, they are good all the time and when they put their best together, they are very good."

Edvinsson still has a lot to learn to become an elite NHL defenseman, but he would definitely bring size to the blue line at six-foot-six.
This season, he also blocked 46 shots, tied for fifth in that category among all NHLers.
Forsberg highlighted the importance of having size in the lineup, noting how recent Stanley Cup champions could count on strong and big players:
«If you look at the Stanley Cup in recent years, there are many well-built players who dominate. If you are going to win the quarterfinals, semifinals, and a final, it is perhaps better to have big players and get everything to work together."

It won't be easy for him to earn a spot on the roster due to all the veterans expected to be a part of the team, but if he has a great season, he could earn his ticket to Milan.
