According to a recent report from The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, Detroit Red Wings starting goaltender Cam Talbot is emerging as a valuable trade candidate on the market.

Pagnotta notes that the veteran, 38-year-old goaltender could become the most sought-after trade candidate between the pipes come the March 6th, 2026, trade deadline.
At this very moment, it certainly wouldn't make the most sense for the Red Wings, who are sitting pretty in the NHL standings, currently being in a playoff spot.
Talbot has turned heads in goal this season, solidifying the starting goaltender spot in Detroit over recently acquired netminder John Gibson.
Perhaps if they fall out of playoff contention come March 6th, a trade could benefit both the Red Wings and Talbot, who is likely going to retire soon.
Pagnotta also notes that Talbot would 'certainly' be interested in joining a potential contending team, like the Edmonton Oilers.
"David Pagnotta: Re Oilers goalie search: I just don't get the sense...yes, better goaltending would be nice; Cam Talbot...he's got a low cap hit; certainly would be motivated to join a potential contender - Inside Sports (11/14)"

Edmonton Oilers could call Detroit to acquire goaltender Cam Talbot

Talbot's reasoning for being such a sought-after trade chip is due to his low cap hit of $2.5M, which is unheard of for a starting goaltender these days, paired alongside his contract having just one season remaining on it.
"David Pagnotta: Cam Talbot, last year of his deal...no no-trade protection, if I'm the Oilers...maybe that's a call worth making; if I'm another team that's looking to solidify the goaltending position, Talbot will be a candidate later on - DFO Rundown (11/12)"
Assuming the Red Wings continue to trend in such a positive direction, Cam Talbot shouldn't be searching for any properties elsewhere.
