A Detroit Red Wings insider revealed that the general manager of the team, Steve Yzerman, could move two veterans on the trade market.

Although he confirmed that calling Nate Danielson up from the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL wasn't an indicator of the team's plans ahead of the trade deadline, two players who could be expendable in Detroit if the rookie performs well have emerged in trade rumors.
Nate Danielson took part in only two NHL games. It's still too early to know what impact he can have on an NHL lineup, but no one will know until they try him.
The Wings decided to give him a shot, and of course, they're seeing what he can do and assessing if they can part ways with older players with heavier contracts to let him develop in the NHL.

Two Detroit Red Wings Veteran Centermen Emerge In Trade Rumors

With Danielson making his first strides in the NHL, Andrew Copp and J.T. Compher must be looking over their shoulders.
The two players have had underwhelming seasons so far and will be expendable as soon as the Wings find better options.
The Wings are in a position to make big acquisitions on the trade market as one of the organizations with the most cap space this season.
With all teams getting access to more money due to the raise in the salary cap, the time to use that advantage is this season.
It wouldn't be surprising to see the team going after a top-six forward, likely a center, and then parting ways with Copp or Compher.
Copp, 31, scored seven points, including one goal, in 17 games this season, with a -5 +/-. He has another season left on his $5,625,000 AAV contract.
Compher, 30, tallied three goals and three assists in the same number of games, with a -2 +/-. He has two more seasons on his $5,100,000 AAV deal.
Yzerman could struggle to part ways with any of them due to their contracts. If he doesn't want to retain money, he could be forced to keep them until they become free agents.
