Detroit Red Wings top prospect Sebastian Cossa was named AHL's Player of the Week, as the former 1st-round goaltender is in the running for a call-up.

Goaltender Sebastian Cossa is a former 1st-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings.
This week, he was honored with the AHL's Player of the Week, as his flawless play has put him in the discussion for a call-up.
His three-game stretch helped the team attain a record of 16-1-0-1.
Cossa's performance was otherworldly with a GAA (goals against average) of 1.33 and a .945 save percentage. His shutout against the Iowa Wild helped make the case for the honors as the Player of the Week and the Grand Rapids Griffins' top goaltender.
The former 15th overall pick by the Detroit Red Wings has been a bright spot in dark times, with a record of 8-1-0, a 1.56 GAA, and a .942 save percentage for the season.
Last season, Cossa earned the well-deserved honor of playing in the AHL All-Star Game. He continues to thrive in the face of adversity.

Detroit Red Wings prospect goaltender Sebastian Cossa's league-leading performance

The goalie prospect of the Red Wings leads the AHL in both goals against average and save percentage this season.
In 2025-26, he ranks among the top goaltenders in shutouts and wins, and this is the second time in his professional career that he's earned player of the week.
The last time was in February 2024.
He reached a milestone in his AHL career with the Griffins, earning his 50th win against the Texas Stars, and joins a small group of eight goaltenders to do so.
But his performance that should earn a call-up to the Red Wings continues, as he had a five-game win streak from October 10th to November 19th and has followed that with a three-game win streak, including a shutout.
His four-year record as a Griffin is 52-26-14 in 93 games, with a 2.43 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
He's performed well enough to be considered for a call-up to the NHL, especially with how John Gibson (3.59 GAA, .865 save percentage) and Cam Talbot (2.88 GAA, .887) are doing.
