A Detroit Red Wings prospect has reached an all-time new low after being kicked off his Swedish team.
The Detroit Red Wings selected Charlie Forslund in the sixth round of the 2024 NHL Draft. The Swedish winger offered an interesting skill set to the Wings, but as of now, his season hasn't been going the way he had expected.
Indeed, his team in the Swedish league has been offering him very limited opportunities to play with the senior team, and now, the two sides are parting ways.
Wings Prospect Charlie Forslund Gets His Contract Terminated In Sweden, Changes Teams
The Mora IK organization has officially decided to terminate Forslund's contract, and the player joined Almtuna IS.
Forslund asked to play with the senior team, and there was no room in the organization for him, leaving the team no choice but to ship him elsewhere.
Andreas Hägglund, the team general manager, opened up on that decision:
"You don't really have any patience. It's nothing strange. He wanted to play first-team hockey and we don't have the chance to give him that. We had another junior before him and there's a reason for that. It's a tough competitive situation.
But then you don't really have any patience and then you want to move on. If it's just about playing in the Swedish Hockey League, it will be difficult for us right now to give that opportunity. Then there is no reason for us to go further together. It's nothing strange. It's just wishing him luck.
We'll see if he fits with his new team. We'll only see that when they've brought him in. We have quite a few senior forwards and have made some changes to the first team. We'll see if we continue to be there or not."

Forslund, 19, tallied seven points, including three goals, in 12 games this season. It'll be interesting to follow his journey to North America.
