Life is full of contradictions. One of those is when you befriend those who were once thought to be your foes. For
Red Wings players from the 90s,
the Colorado Avalanche were public enemy #1.
They'd hold some barnburners, where tensions would flare all night, and where they'd leave it all on the ice.
But people grow older, settle down and return to the simpler things. For Peter Forsberg, he's found a friend in Red Wings defenseman, Simon Edvinsson.
Edvinsson had a chance to befriend Forsberg during the 2025 IIHF World Championships. Not to discount the Swedes' success, as they're doing quite well, but Edvinsson mentioned the two have known each other for quite a while now.
«We have mutual friends, so we've known each other for a few years now,» Edvinsson told Swedish TV network Viaplay. «We have met a lot in Stockholm, played padel and have a trip that we do as a group.»
In what many fans could consider blasphemy, this is a meeting of an NHL legend and a prospect who's still growing in the Red Wings system.
The age gap between the two couldn't be more obvious: Forsberg at 51, and Edvinsson at 22, but they manage to get along quite well. And they've even set up a nice wager between themselves on who would win the series between the Avs and the Red Wings this season.
Unfortunately, Forsberg won, but Edvinsson wants that to change next season.
«It sucks, that loss sucks,» Edvinsson said. «But what the hell, a bet is a bet. He won it fair and square. Next year I'll get my revenge on it.»
For now, he owes Forsberg a sum he cannot comment on, but maybe he can convince his teammates to put it all on the line when they meet
Nathan MacKinnon and company next year.
