Sabres' Tage Thompson accidentally gives valuable advice to Red Wings
After getting pounded 7-3 by the Red Wings, Sabres star forward Tage Thompson inadvertently gave some sage advice to the Detroit players.
It was a long time coming, but the Detroit Red Wings finally broke their 6-game losing streak with a convincing victory over the divisional foe Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night.
Not only did the Red Wings put a 7-spot up on the Sabres, but they also dropped the gloves at several points during the game as the frustrated Buffalo players took out their frustration on their opponents.
Sabres star forward Tage Thompson, who picked up another goal against the Red Wings as he's done throughout his entire career,
accidentally offered some sage advice to the Detroit players in his postgame interview.
That's a very dangerous group, and they don't need a whole lot to put the puck in the back of the net. We had a couple defensive breakdowns that gave them clean looks and they capitalized.
As far as the wild on-ice melees that resulted in 136 penalty minutes in the 3rd period alone, Thompson chalked that up to there being lots of "emotion" during the contest.
There was a lot of emotion out there. And we had a lot of frustration with how things had gone during the game.
Thompson's emotional outbursts aren't outlandish, considering that he and his teammates are about to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 14th straight year, which is currently the longest drought in the NHL today.
At 25-33-6, the Sabres - who haven't made the playoffs since 2011 - are in last place in the Atlantic Division.
One bright spot for them is the play of Thompson, who leads them with 58 points (34G, 24A).
