Steve Yzerman's isn't done adding talent after acquiring John Gibson from Anaheim
The Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman isn't done adding talent to his team after acquiring the top goalie John Gibson from the Anaheim Ducks on the trade market during the NHL Draft.
John Gibson was involved in hundreds of trade rumors over the past years, as many fans and analysts expected he would request a trade away from Anaheim years ago.
But after wasting many years of his career playing behind a struggling and rebuilding team, he finally gets a chance to turn his career around with the Detroit Red Wings.
The Wings will be a much better team next season than they were last year, especially with Yzerman poised to add more talent to the roster in the coming days.
After winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Florida Panthers, Ekblad could be pushed out of the organization due to cap restrictions. The Panthers don't have much money to spend, and after signing
Sam Bennett to an eight-year deal, could decide to end their association with Ekblad if they don't have cap space.
While the Panthers could move some money around to make it happen, Ekblad signing with another team seems the likeliest scenario.
As of now, only a few organizations can afford to sign a player like Ekblad, and the Wings are on the list.
The Windsor native scored 13 points in 19 games in the Panthers' latest playoff run, and scored 33 points despite being limited to 56 regular season games this year.
If Yzerman wants to sign a top defenseman, only a few are available. Going after Ekblad would make sense, but the team won't be the only one in the sweepstakes if the player ends up on the market.
