Once again, the Detroit Red Wings got zero luck in the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery, falling back a spot to the 13th overall pick.
No other team in the NHL has fallen back as many spots over the years as the Red Wings have, a great source of frustration for fans (and the team itself).
They decided against trading the 13th pick, and have used it to select forward Carter Bear of the WHL's Everett Silvertips.
Immediately after, he engaged in a live quick interview over video uplink with Steve Yzerman and Kris Draper. Yzerman welcomed Bear to the organization and pointed back to their time together at the Scouting Combine in Buffalo.
Hey Carter, Steve Yzerman and Kris Draper here. As you know, I hope you remember, we got to meet you in Buffalo there a few weeks ago. We enjoyed our time together, and we're looking forward to spending a lot time together in the future. We're thrilled to have you in our organization. Obviously, we love you as a hockey player and we're very excited to have you in the organization with us as we move forward.
Bear responded that not only was he glad for the opportunity but also was speechless.
