The Detroit Red Wings trade the 13th overall pick away: A major announcement was just made that confirms it

The Detroit Red Wings have the 13th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and it looks like they'll be keeping it after a major announcement was made.
Once again, the Detroit Red Wings received zero luck in the NHL Draft Lottery, moving back a spot and getting the 13th overall pick.
The New York Islanders, who had made the playoffs for 5 straight seasons before this year, somehow moved ahead several spots and will be selecting 1st overall.
It's a maddening cycle for the Red Wings and their fans, especially since no team has dropped back in the NHL Draft Lottery in recent years more than they have.
And it looks like Detroit will be keeping the pick rather than using it as trade bait to land a player that could help them immediately.
The Red Wings announced that comedian Dave Coulier, who was best known for his role as Joey Gladstone on the ABC Sitcom Full House, will announce their selection.
Coulier was born in Detroit and attended the University of Michigan, and has been a lifelong Red Wings fan. During the 8-year run of Full House, Coulier's character, better known as "Uncle Joey", would often wear a Red Wings sweater.
It wasn't long ago that Coulier was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma and began chemotherapy. Thankfully, he was recently declared cancer-free.
In the meantime, the Red Wings appear poised to select a prospect with the 13th overall selection that likely won't be anywhere close to being ready for the NHL for the next several years.
Are the Red Wings making the right choice by not packaging the pick to try and land talent that can help them win right away?
