Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan makes his feelings well known on the teams 2-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Monday, which ultimately lead to their losing streak being extended to six games.
Post-game, Todd McLellan offered a raw perspective on his team's effort and the challenge ahead as they hope to clinch the playoffs.
"They put a lot into that game. There's no complaints about effort or, really, execution. We ran into a goalie that had a career night, and unfortunately for us, we couldn't find a way to beat him. We didn't give up much. We played a good, hard, gritty game.»
Despite the loss, he remains positive about the bigger picture moving forward.
«When you're in [a losing streak], it'd be nice to get a game like this and come out of it. But if we play like this and continue to play like this, we'll find ways to get wins.»
With only a handful of games left in the season, the Red Wings are feeling the heat.
Forward Lucas Raymond revealed the team's current mindset, saying:
«This stretch of the season, with this few games left, it's about results, winning hockey games, and finding ways to win. We haven't done a good enough job of that. We've had some solid games, but it's about getting the wins.»
Breaking this losing streak will require more than effort. The Red Wings must be sharper and improve their power play.
