Red Wings' GM Steve Yzerman reveals why he held fort at NHL trade deadline
The Detroit Red Wings' general manager, Steve Yzerman, reveals why no major moves occurred during the 2024/25 NHL Trade Deadline.
Many fans have begun to express their frustration towards the Detroit Red Wings decisions to lay-back during the trade deadline.
Yzerman recently responded to media expressing that he had intention to move draft picks and prospects during this year's trade deadline, yet the circumstances of this year's event just didn't pan out how he was expecting.
The Wings' GM Steve Yzerman had revealed some insight during a recently, expressing some detail regarding his absence at the trade deadline.
«(For) players that have some term on their contract and are younger that are going to be a part of this group for like more than one or two years, I'm open to doing that. Though that type of deal wasn't available.»
It is evident to Detroit
Red Wings fans that Steve Yzerman is known for his interest in strictly adopting long-term key-players, and that he is not interested in any short-term contracts within his organization, especially if any trades made would require key-prospects to be signed to a different team.
Despite a dry trade deadline and a quiet Yzerman, Elliotte Friedman did release a few weeks ago that the Red Wings were interested in rugged
Buffalo Sabres center,
Dylan Cozens.
However, this trade did not work in Yzerman's favour, as this 24-year old was traded to the
Ottawa Senators.
Although, with this insight, the organization may expect a young key-forward comparable to Cozens, to make it into the Yzerplan this summer.
