After the the Detroit Red Wings acquired goaltender John Gibson in a draft day trade with the Anaheim Ducks, general manager Steve Yzerman addressed trading away Detroit's future assets in exchange for pieces that could help the Red Wings win now.

Yzerman kicked off his press conference by revealing that he is looking into acquiring a winger as well as a defenseman in free agency. He then addressed the current demand for players on the market, which seems to be at an all-time high following the Montreal Canadiens and New York Islanders trade involving defenseman Noah Dobson.
«When I'm talking to teams right now, everybody wants - the teams I'm talking to - they want players,» Yzerman said. «Much like we want players. What do we have to offer? Like, I don't want to trade our core players."

He then dropped a surprising piece of news that he's willing to part ways with future assets to acquire the Red Wings immediate help from the trade market, something Yzerman has always shied away from.
Could Marco Kasper be used as a key piece in a trade to acquire true star studded talent?
"You trade, whatever, a young centerman for a young centerman - I'm looking to add to our team, and use our future assets for that, and right now, teams are all looking to add players to their team, kind of do the same thing (that) we're trying to do.»
