According to a major development by Rangers team reporter Vince Mercogliano of USA Today, the New York Rangers have been in discussions with the Detroit Red Wings about defenseman sending defenseman RFA K'Andre Miller to Motor City.
The Detroit Red Wings need to upgrade their blueline. The solution could lie in the New York Rangers' lineup, who have been shopping RFA defenseman
K'Andre Miller.
The former 1st-round pick has drummed up interest across the league, as it's been reported that 12-15 NHL teams are in hot pursuit of the left-handed defenseman.
He scored a career-high 43 points (9-34) in 2022-23 and has since regressed under Peter Laviolette.
Despite this, he still has plenty of upside for someone like Steve Yzerman, who could find a spot for him in the Red Wings' lineup.
Miller is due a raise, and his last contract paid him $3.872 million AAV over the last two years.
With the Red Wings dumping
Vladimir Tarasenko, they have more room to sign Miller, as they have $20.2 million in cap space available.
However, the New York Rangers could be working on a sign-and-trade with Miller and the right team.
Any further developments have been mum, as it was last reported that the RFA defenseman was extended a qualifying offer by GM Chris Drury today.
Will the Red Wings be the winners of the K'Andre Miller sweepstakes? He has excellent wheels and, as evidenced by his prior offensive output, could be an excellent offensive-defenseman in the lineup.
Miller could prove to be a top-four in the lineup, as one of his regular partners in New York was
Adam Fox and
Jacob Trouba.
