Wild trade proposal sees the Red Wings trading Alex DeBrincat to divisional rival

A reporter for 'heavy.com', Cole Shelton, proposed a deal that would see the Detroit Red Wings' Alex DeBrincat traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets in a blockbuster move this offseason.

Claiming the Red Wings would acquire: Elvis Merzlikins, their 2025 first-round pick, and 2026 fifth-round pick.

While the Blue Jackets would acquire: Alex DeBrincat, and Noah Dower Nilsson (signing rights)

The reporter suggests that due to the Red Wings' dire need of a starting goaltender, they could be interested in signing a short-term contract with an experienced net-minder, for Detroit's Alex DeBrincat, as it is a position the team is currently lacking in and claims they will continue to do so until the organization's goaltending prospects are ready to go pro.

Alex DeBrincat is a 27-year old forward, with an abundance to offer the Red Wings organization.

The right-winger has been an absolute cornerstone for Detroit this 2024/25 season, accumulating whopping 62 points, 33 goals and 29 assists, and has especially made his presence known following the 4 Nations Face-Off with his impeccable gameplay and outstanding results.

Anyone who is a Red Wings fan, knows the depths of this player, and how much of a toll trading him would take on the team.

Although there is no update regarding if the organization is even open-minded to trade their key-forward, fans can hope to see DeBrincat to continue to shining throughout Detroit's current and on-going re-build.
