The Detroit Red Wings' 2-1 win over the New York Rangers left Jonathan Quick with a spark to cause a line brawl at the end of the game.

Jonathan Quick, who has guarded the crease exceptionally against the Detroit Red Wings since 2018, faltered last night in more ways than one.
Quick would be pelted by pucks, as the Red Wings fired on all cylinders, unleashing 40 shots on goal.
Instead of that being what sparked Quick to cause a line brawl in Madison Square Garden between the Rangers and Red Wings, it was something else entirely.
Done by depth forward Mason Appleton.
«The horn goes, a couple seconds [pass], [Appleton] shoots it in the net. I don't know why they were surprised,» Quick told reporters after the game.

«It's usually the response when something like that happens. So, boys jumped in...did the right thing.»

That would cause a ruckus on the ice, as both teams would converge in an energetic tilt. A way to celebrate 100 seasons for each time, right? Seems fitting.
Forward Lucas Raymond would be the one to break the tie, 1-1 with four minutes left to break the tie.

Jonathan Quick Was Inspired to Action by this Detroit Red Wings forward's recklessness on Sunday

Quick held up well, stopping 40 of 42 shots by the Red Wings, and despite Quick's confrontation with Appleton, it wasn't 60 minutes of play that caused a commotion.
It was Appleton's unsportsmanlike gesture.
«No, it's a complete separate issue from the 60 minutes that took place. And then the couple seconds and then he shoots it, right? That's just that.»

The Detroit Red Wings would show what they were capable of against one of the hottest teams in the NHL at the moment, led by their former head coach, David Quinn.
JT Miller would credit his team for holding down the fort, despite being outshot 42-19.
The Red Wings would have two goal-scorers that night in Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat.
We don't get line brawls like that anymore, but it was an exciting finish to a competitive game during the Red Wings Centennial Season.
