Maple Leafs plagued with concerning injury news of Stanley Cup Champion against Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs competed tonight on home ice in Little Caesars Arena, and the Maple Leafs lost a role player in Steven Lorentz due to an upper-body injury.
The Detroit Red Wings have won another game in the continued rivalry between themselves and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Not only were the Maple Leafs outshot, but they were defeated by a 3-goal margin, 6-3.
However, the Maple Leafs would
suffer another misfortune on Saturday as the team lost forward Steven Lorentz
to an upper-body injury.
Lorentz would play only 3 shifts in the 1st period and finished the night with only 1:17 time on the ice.
The 29-year-old forward had appeared to be injured after a hit by Red Wings defenseman
Ben Chiarot.
The team
will miss the former Stanley Cup champion who helped lend two assists in their opening night victory against the Montreal Canadiens.
The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs Rivalry Continues
With Ben Chiarot's hit on the forward, taking him out of the lineup, there could be retaliation for the hit next game.
The two teams will collide once more on October 13th in the Maple Leafs' home, Scotiabank Arena, giving them a legitimate home advantage.
Will Head Coach Craig Berube tell the team to lay the lumber with an increased intensity against the Detroit Red Wings?
Time will tell, but for now, the Red Wings have the upper hand in the series against the Original Six franchise, 1-0.
In
preseason play, the team won both exhibition games with a record of 2-0, which seems to have set the tone for this year.
