An important member of the Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a long-term injury last night against the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings were in Toronto last night to face the Maple Leafs in the first of back-to-back games to end the preseason.
It's safe to say that the stage is set for an exciting game next saturday, following an action-packed matchup yesterday.
Notably, a massive scrum emerged following a collision between Wings forward Lucas Raymond and Leafs goalie Anthony Stolarz:
The Wings came out strong from the start. Todd McLellan opened up on the message he had for his players after the 3-1 win:
"We talked to the players before the game, and it was 'you and us. The 'you' part, they had to prepare themselves individually for the season coming up. I wasn't too sure that everybody was at that point yet, so we challenged them there.

And the 'us' part, we got to put that all together. I thought this was the most complete effort of the exhibition season, where we started to see the structure come and pace of play. Those are all positive signs."

Unfortunately for the Leafs, the team hasn't only lost the game, but also a player to an injury.

Leafs' Scott Laughton Gets Injured Against The Leafs: Out Week-To-Week

During the scond period of the game, Laughton blocked a shot with his foot in left the game.
The Leafs announced today that the forward will be out week-to-week:
The 31-year-old veteran is entering the final season of his five-year contract signed in 2021. Expected to play a big role on the Leafs bottom-six, the team will have to rely on their great offensive depth to fill in during his recovery.
Head coach Craig Berube will surely use the final preseason game and the remaining practices to test out different combinations.
Stay tuned for more.
