Questions remain about the choices made after the Detroit Red Wings selected Carter Bear from the Everett Silvertips (WHL) 13th overall in the NHL Draft..

The Detroit Red Wings are in desperate need of a fix-me-up on the blueline, as it remains one of the team's weaker spots on the ice.
With only Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson being the top two defenders on the roster, there should be more urgency to address the need.
With the 13th overall pick, the Red Wings selected gritty forward Carter Bear, who scored a total of 82 points this season with the WHL's Everett Silvertips.
While this is a great selection for the future, Yzerman should also be focusing on the "win-now" part of his job.
Something he arguably neglected last night, as the team again missed out on another upgrade to the lineup to a divisional rival (Montreal).
The Montreal Canadiens made quick work of a deal to secure defenseman Noah Dobson, which cost them Emil Heineman and a 16th & 17th OA picks.
A trade that Yzerman could've swung if he made the effort. Instead, again, Yzerman sat on his Yzerhands.
It may have cost two 1st & and at top-prospect, but the pool is deep enough to consider moving these kinds of assets to build a Stanley Cup contender.

While Carter Bear isn't to blame for the Red Wings' struggles, it's arguable that Yzerman's inaction will give the fans of the franchise another year of struggles, while Bear is set to join the team in the future.
Tomorrow is already gone, and the blue line looks woefully intact.
On the cusp of the 100th season of the franchise, the aim should be higher, and the goals lofty or even modest like acquiring forwards like Evander Kane ( who cost at most a 4th!), and Noah Dobson.
Instead, we have to write a layup article about how Yzerman is comfortable in his complacency.
The Red Wings' prospect pipeline is built for the future, but the team built for now is not acceptable.

Do you think the Detroit Red Wings made a mistake drafting forward Carter Bear of the Everett Silvertips instead of a trade package for Noah Dobson, now a Montreal Canadien?
