Pocketfuls of fans at Bell Centre in Montreal continued to boo during the performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" ahead of tonight's 4 Nations Faceoff matchup.
In what has become a recent trend in some Canadian cities, the performance of "The Star Spangled Banner" was met with audible booing from some fans at Bell Centre before tonight's matchup in the 4 Nations Faceoff between the United States and Finland.
Despite the plea from the Montreal public address announcer for fans to remain respectful, some are choosing to not fulfill that request and instead taint what should be a moment of sportsmanship between a pair of top hockey nations.
There have been several noted examples of the American anthem being booed by some fans in recent weeks, including in Ottawa before a game between the Ottawa Senators and Minnesota Wild as well as in Vancouver before the Detroit Red Wings faced the Vancouver Canucks.
Additionally, the booing has been heard prior to a game featuring the host Toronto Raptors against the Los Angeles Clippers.
While the rest of their Red Wings teammates have the next several days off to catch up on some much-needed relaxation, Detroit captain
Detroit Red Wings and teammate Lucas Raymond are staying active after having been selected to participate in the 4 Nations Faceoff.
Raymond had a pair of assists in last night's 4-3 OT loss to Canada.
