Penn State forward Gavin McKenna dropped a hint that he'd be a perfect match for the Detroit Red Wings, mentioning his similarities to Patrick Kane, whom he was a huge fan of growing up.

Have the Detroit Red Wings become a destination for young players? In the latest interview with forward Gavin McKenna, it sounds as if the PSU Nittany Lions forward wouldn't say no to wearing the winged wheel in the future.
The dynamic young forward mentioned during the interview that he followed everything Patrick Kane did with the Chicago Blackhawks when he was growing up. He was able to witness the dynasty, which influenced him as a hockey player.
Watching him on the TV led to him adopting a similar playstyle as Kane, which we know is a gamebreaker.
The veteran forward could speed up and slow the game down at will, which he feels mirrors his favorite player on the ice.
Keeping up with his reputation last season led to him breaking new ground in the NHL history books:
Kane broke a new milestone last season, keeping himself in the history books with other elite forwards in the league.

Gavin McKenna: The 2026 Top Forward Prospect in The Draft

If the Detroit Red Wings could draft Gavin McKenna, they could solidify their future as a contender without question.
Instead of staying in the CHL this season with the Medicine Hat Tigers, he chose to make the jump to the NCAA and find himself in a higher level of competition.
Though we weren't sure how well he'd make the transition into the Big Ten, he's already scored 3 points (1-2) in his first 2 games as a Nittany Lion.
Playing for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the WHL in 2024-25 saw him score 129 points (41-88) and put him on the radar of NHL pundits everywhere as the next top prospect, following in the footsteps of his cousin, Connor Bedard.
According to DobbersProspects, he isn't lying about his skillset:
:The most effortless scorer we've ever seen at the WHL. Will continue to use his elite brain to out-think team defenses and his elite shot to terrorize goalies-no matter what level."

We'd love to see McKenna suit up in the iconic Red Wings jersey.
