Original Six hockey legend Phil Goyette passes away at age 92
The NHL lost a legend today, as Original Six legend Phil Goyette, a former Montreal Canadiens player, passed away at the age of 92.
The hockey community is mourning the passing of Phil Goyette at the age of 92, a former Montreal Canadien, who was the second-oldest forward among current alumni.
Born in Lachine on October 31st, 1933, Goyette started his hockey career with the Montreal Canadiens. The centerman was a four-time Stanley Cup champion (between 1957 and 1960) and was a part of some amazing teams in that period.

Goyette played 375 games of his NHL career with the Canadiens, scoring 182 points and 44 penalty minutes.
Unlike his counterparts at the time, Goyette was nominated for the Lady Byng during the 1969-70 season for his gentlemanly manners on and off the ice, including his excellent performance as a St. Louis Blues player, and added only 16 penalty minutes to his totals.
Throughout his NHL career, the legend played a total of 941 games, scoring 674 points (207-467).
As a skilled centerman, he was counted on to produce during the playoffs, scoring 44 points in the playoffs, in addition to playing on the penalty kill.
The centerman suited up for the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers before concluding his playing career. In 1971-72, he'd continue his journey in the NHL, becoming the first head coach for the New York Islanders.
The Goyette family has thanked the public for their wishes of sympathy.
