Three-time Stanley Cup winning defenseman, Alec Martinez, who suited up for the Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Vegas Golden Knights, has decided to call it a career at the end of the 2024-2025 NHL season.

Alec Martinez has been terrorizing the Western Conference since he began his career in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings, winning two Stanley Cups with the team, and one with the Vegas Golden Knights in 2023.
However, all things must come to an end, and during the pregame warmups tonight in the United Center, Alec Martinez, 37, told Darren Pang that he'd be retiring at the end of the season.
Martinez had been out of the lineup for the majority of the season, playing only his 44th game for the team in 2024-2025. Having won three Stanley Cups to your name, seems like it would be fulfilling enough, considering he's joining fellow Blackhawks teammate Pat Maroon in retirement.
The 37-year-old defenseman had originally been brought in to be a mentor for younger Blackhawks players during the ongoing rebuild. Instead of being a mentor, he's had to watch the Blackhawks nursing an injury, of course, through no fault of his own.

«Just very thankful, very appreciative. I have a lot of people, my family, a lot of people who helped me along the way in this game to get here. Once I got here, my wife (Emily), my son, my daughter that I'm going to have in about five days. Just I suppose I'll have more time to reflect in the coming weeks, but just very thankful, very appreciative of a lot of different things and a lot of different people.»

Martinez was selected 95th overall in the 4th round of the 2007 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, and would win two Stanley Cups there.
After tonight, Martinez will have played 862 career NHL games and has scored 289 points (88 goals, 201 assists), and spent the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Kings and Vegas Golden Knights.
He signed a one-year, $4 million contract with GM Kyle Davidson and the Chicago Blackhawks.
We wish Alec Martinez success in his future endeavours, and good luck with your retirement!
