The Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks combined for a 3-player move that sees a former player heading home
Steve Yzerman has finally woken up from his long afternoon nap on NHL trade deadline day, and has struck a deal with original six rivals, the Chicago Blackhawks.
The trade involves three players, and marks the first trade of the day for both organizations.
Heading to Chicago is Joe Veleno, a 25-year old forward for the Detroit Red Wings who has 10 points in 52 games played this season.
Acquired by Detroit is a former goaltender of the team, 33-year old goaltender Petr Mrazek and forward Craig Smith, who is a longtime NHL veteran.
The Detroit Red Wings currently have three goaltenders in their organization in Alex Lyon, Cam Talbot and now Petr Mrazek, but are in dire need of forwards due to recent devastating injuries.
UPDATE: The #RedWings have acquired forward Craig Smith and goaltender Petr Mrazek from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Joe Veleno.
There is still a bit of time before the clock hits 3:00 p.m and trades are no longer able to be made, so we could see a goaltender out the door shortly.
