Blackhawks Complete Blockbuster With Red Wings' Divisional Rival For Seth Jones
The Florida Panthers just made a splash, picking up Seth Jones in a blockbuster deal Saturday night.
In return, Chicago's walking away with
Spencer Knight-a young goaltender, formerly drafted 13th overall-and a first-round pick for 2027.
This trade sadly affects the Red Wings big time as they are set to face off against the Panthers two more times this season, and are not playing the Blackhawks for the remainder of the season.
The Red Wings' playoff push just got much, much harder. As they are already deemed to have the toughest schedule for the remainder of the NHL season, they face another disadvantage in their opponents acquisition.
The first report came from Pierre LeBrun over at TSN.
Jones, who's now 30, has had quite the rough season with the Blackhawks, he's been stuck dealing with a right foot thing that's kept him off the ice more than he'd like-only 42 games so far this season.
He's chipped in seven goals and racked up 27 points, all while playing up to 24 and a half minutes a night.
He's in year three of this monster eight-year deal-$76 million, which equals out to $9.5 million a year against the cap.
Chicago's eating a chunk of that, 26.3%, which drops his hit to $7 million for the Panthers.
He's locked in until 2029-30, then he's free to test the market.
