Hockey world endures tragic loss of historic longtime player and coach
The hockey community is mourning a tragedy on Thursday after learning the news of the passing of a former member of the NHL and the Buffalo Sabres
We are saddened to announce that another terrible tragedy has struck the NHL community.
A former longtime player and coach for the last 15-years after hanging up the skates, Claude Verret, has sadly passed away at the age of 61.
Verret grew up in Quebec City and began his historic hockey career in 1975, playing in the Quebec International Hockey Tournament, and would later play for a minor hockey team in Beauport.
He would later join the QMJHL and rally up an impressive 462 points throughout his junior career.

Verret would suit up for the Buffalo Sabres in two different NHL seasons, 1983-84 1984-85.
He'd win the Jean Béliveau Trophy in the 1981-82 season, which ultimately lead to his NHL draft selection by the Buffalo Sabres, where he later found success in the AHL with the Rochester Americans.
He then took his hockey expertise into coaching, as he served the role for the past 15 years, up until passing away on March 12th of 2025.
Verret left his impact on many, throughout his professional hockey career as well as coaching, he wanted to guide the next era of players onto the right path.
