Longtime NHL defenseman Chad Ruhwedel has hung up the skates for good, as he's retired from professional hockey at the age of 35.

After a fourteen-year career in the NHL, Chad Ruhwedel has said his goodbyes to the game we all love.
"Chad Ruhwedel has announced his retirement from professional hockey.

The BuffaloSabres signed Chad out of college to an entry-level contract on April 13, 2013, making his NHL debut that very night. Chad played 33 games for the Sabres from 2013 to 2016, signing with the penguins during the 2016 offseason. Later that season, on December 23, 2016, Chad scored his first career goal, as he and the Penguins went on to win the Stanley Cup. Chad spent parts of eight seasons with the Penguins organization, playing 326 games for the Penguins between 2016 and 2024.

Chad joined the NYRangers ahead of the 2024 NHL trade deadline and played with the team through to this past season, concluding his NHL career with 369 regular-season games played, along with 25 Stanley Cup playoff games, and the 2017 Stanley Cup victory with the Penguins.

Congratulations on your retirement, Chad, and welcome to the NHL Alumni Association!"
