Red Wings forward Vladimir Tarasenko has been prohibited from participating in the 2026 Winter Olympics, along with all Russian players, per a recent announcement.

It was a rough first year with the Detroit Red Wings for forward Vladimir Tarasenko, who didn't come close to living up to expectations.
By all indications, the Red Wings are planning on having him back next season rather than buying out the final year of his contract, and they'll be banking on him rebounding and being more productive.
But Tarasenko and Russian players all across the NHL were just dealt a blow regarding their participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics - they won't be able do.
BREAKING: Russia has been ruled ineligible to participate in ice hockey at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, pending official announcement.

The IIHF reportedly made the ruling today at the annual congress.
Russian athletes everywhere have been clamped down on from competition in international tournaments since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2021.
Former Red Wings goaltender Dominik Hasek, an extremely outspoken critic of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, went so far as to demand that all Russians be banned from participation in the NHL.
Rules need to be set so that Russian players have an incentive to come out publicly. Some players could make the best peace ambassadors. Unfortunately, the NHL does not help the Russian hockey players one bit.
