Captain Dylan Larkin and the Detroit Red Wings will open the season on October 9th, 2025, against the Montreal Canadiens in Little Caesar's Arena.

The Detroit Red Wings will have their home opener take place at Little Caesar's Arena Ice on October 9th, 2025.
The opening bout of the season will take place against their Atlantic Division foes, the Montreal Canadiens.
The same Canadiens squad gave them issues near the end of the year, as they fought for a Wild Card spot in the playoffs.
With new Head Coach Todd McLellan at the helm of the Red Wings team, and a new look supporting cast, we hope for a better start to the year.
The Red Wings finished 10th in the Eastern Conference last season with a record of 39-35-8, with 86 points.
Their subpar performance at the middle point of the season called for action from Steve Yzerman, and he'd begin the clean-up of the coaching staff, with the firing of Derek Lalonde, and bringing in firebrand Todd McLellan.
The Red Wings haven't been so active during the offseason, but they would trade Vladimir Tarasenko, Petr Mrazek.
Tarasenko would yield "future considerations", and the Red Wings would get goalie John Gibson in return for Petr Mrazek, and a fourth-round and second-round draft pick.
Yzerman would ink deals with defenseman William Lagesson and Antti Tuomisto, both to two-year deals. He'd also sign Finnish forward Jesse Kiiskinen to a three-year ELC in the offseason.
We hope the moves aren't done yet, as the team has plenty of gaps to fill in the lineup, and the blue line could be improved substantially.
Notably, in the RFA market, preferably, with someone like Ryker Evans, as opposed to Erik Karlsson.
In the meantime, there's hope with McLellan leading the way, the team will find their way back into play contention.
October 9th, we'll see how the Yzerplan fares against Martin St. Louis and the Montreal Canadiens.
