Detroit Red Wings announce signing of prominent 13th overall pick forward
The Red Wings have signed Carter Bear, who they took with the 13th pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, to a 3-year entry level contract.
When Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman took over the executive duties from Ken Holland in 2019, he was tasked with having to re-stock the prospect cupboard, which was nearly completely bare.
In that time, Yzerman has managed to re-stock it with multiple intriguing prospects, and they added another last month.
The Red Wings took Carter Bear with the 13th pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft (in which they fell back another spot, again) and now they've officially made him a member of the team.
Bear has signed a 3 year entry level contract:
Bear's scouting report via Elite Prospects reads as follows:
Bear leaves nothing to chance. No matter the size of the opponent, the score, or the situation, he enters every battle with speed and never concedes an inch. Bear's playoffs-every-night mentality also powers his offensive game. He powers through contact to get to the net, relentlessly battles in the slot for tips and rebounds, and dominates play from the hashmarks and in.
Bear had 82 points (40G, 42A) in 56 games with the WHL's Everett Silvertips this year.
While the Red Wings originally had thought of trading the pick, Yzerman instead used it to select Bear and explained why.
I talked to every team in the league; you have some conversations with some teams that are interested in our assets and vice versa. And ultimately, at least up to tonight, haven't found anything that was a fit for myself or anyone that I've been speaking with.
