Detroit Red Wings prospect Axel Sandin-Pellikka just hit a major milestone during the SHL playoffs with Skelleftea.
Axel Sandin-Pellikka was drafted 17th overall in the 1st-round of the NHL draft by the Detroit Red Wings.
Red Wings have an affinity for Swedish defenseman, if we look at history with Nicklas Lidstrom. However, for
Axel Sandin-Pellikka he wasn't an underdog or was an afterthought like Lidstrom was during his beginnings with the club.
He's a proven commodity who will turn into a top defenseman for the Red Wings once he's fully developed.
The 17th overall pick has proven his weight in gold this weekend, and he hit a major career milestone in the SHL.
With Skellefteå AIK in the SHL playoffs, he has posted twelve points total. For Pellikka, providing that kind of production has set a record for the most points ever by a junior defenseman.
In 46 games played for Skellefteå, he has posted a total of 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists) and hasn't stopped during the playoffs.
His play during the IIHF World Junior Championships should've been an insight into how elite Pellikka would be this year.
In 7 games with Sweden during the 2025 WJC, he'd post 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) a PPG of 1.43.
Could we expect a repeat of 2023-2024, where Skellefteå and Pellikka win a Le Mat Trophy again?
It'd be a great way for the junior defenseman to closer his career in the SHL, after the season he's had this year.
