Despite the Red Wings already having a pair of starters under contract, along with Sebastian Cossa, they're reportedly about to sign another goaltender.
Additionally, highly-touted prospect goalie Sebastian Cossa continues to wait in the wings as he hones his skills with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins.
It looks like per reports, another goaltender is about to make his way to the Motor City. Via Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects, the Red Wings will be signing Arvid Holm, the Swedish Hockey League's top goaltender, to a contract.
It is expected that Detroit will sign 6'5, free agent netminder, Arvid Holm at the conclusion of the season
The 26-year-old won the Honken Trophy as the SHL's top netminder by posting a 0.925 SV% across 35 games for Rögle BK
He was originally drafted by Winnipeg in the 6th round in 2017.
An original draft selection of the Winnipeg Jets, Holm recorded a 1.95 GAA and .925 SV% with 4 shutouts this year with Rogle BK.
If Holm signs with the Red Wings, it may effectively signal that
Alex Lyon's time with the organization is through. He's a pending UFA and there's been no reported update on a contract extension for him to remain with the club he's played with since 2023.
With Holm in the fold, it's likely that he would compete for the starting position with the Griffins with Cossa; Cossa is also hoping to make a case for himself to earn a roster position with the Red Wings next year.
