The Detroit Red Wings fans will have to adjust their expectations as Axel Sandin Pellikka's arrival in Hockeytown could be delayed due to the SHL playoffs.
Fans believed that
Pellikka would be headed over to Detroit as soon as Skelleftea's season in the SHL ended.
That was the statement he made in the middle of March, and maybe he wasn't expecting to kick around the SHL playoffs for so long.
«I assume that I will go over immediately after the playoffs with Skellefteå and play over there,»
Sandin-Pellikka was quoted in an article published in Folkbladet on Wednesday.
For
Sandin-Pellikka, this is a welcome surprise as he gets to see more competitive hockey before he finally makes the leap to professional hockey.
While fans will have to exercise a bit more patience until Skelleftea and Pellikka are eliminated from the playoffs, which doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.
Fortunately for the Red Wings and their faithful fans, the 17th overall pick in 2023 signed his entry-level contract last summer and was loaned back to his club in the SHL, Skelleftea.
Pellikka's Skelleftea would rally to defeat Farjestad 6-2 and would lead the series 3-1.
Sandin-Pellikka was held scoreless, but the Red Wings' own 2024 1st-round pick,
Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, would post a power-play goal and an assist with 13:41 TOI during the game.
Skelleftea can continue their playoff run if they win game 5 next Saturday, and Game 6 if they need it on Sunday.
If the team keeps pushing deeper into the playoffs as it appears they are it could be until the end of the Red Wings' season before he makes the jump to Detroit.
To give you an idea, the Red Wings last games are on April 16th in New Jersey, and the 17th in Toronto.
